The car will not start, after trying to start it a little fast, or after several months of non-use.
The easiest reasons are the lack of gas, and an empty battery. You can quickly check this by looking at what level is the fuel gauge, if a red battery indicator appears on the dashboard. One can also check if the battery indicator, present directly on the battery (depending on the models) is not red too.
Another rather obvious reason is the lack of engine oil. Has the drain been made recently? To be sure, check the oil level.
If you have a car with a gasoline engine and not diesel, and you have tried to start it too fast. There may be a surplus of fuel in the engine.
If you have not used your car for more than 3 months, then it is possible that the engine is damaged, that the engine is too dirty. That the spark plugs are out of order, that the ignition coil is corroded.
Another possible reason if you have no particular indicator on the dashboard is the starter that is damaged. Or the starter that is stuck. For this last case, here is a manipulation to do yourself:
- we remove the handbrake,
- we engage the 5th gear,
- we push the car on 6-8 inches (on condition of being on a flat ground, and not on a slope),
- we push in the forward direction, then in the backward direction,
- we engage the parking brake,
- we set the speed to neutral,
- we try to start the car,
- if it does not work, we put the speed on the 1st,
- we try to start the engine,
- if it does not work, we put the speed back to the neutral position,
- we try to start.
- if it does not work,
- we remove the handbrake,
- we put the speed on the 5th.
- we push the car forward for 8-12 inches,
- we push the car backwards on 8-12 inches,
- we put the speed on the dead point,
- we put the handbrake,
- we try to start the engine,
- if it does not work, we retry again, while pressing the accelerator pedal,
- if it does not work, take a break of a few days (or a few hours).
- we retry the experience several times.
- The goal is to take off the starter from its spring.
- If it works, it was therefore the starter which was stuck, and which finally could be taken off to finally work properly.
- If it still does not work, then the problem is more complex, it is good to call a tow truck and go to the garage!
