How to enable ipv6 on a Debian server

You feel may be limited with the ipv4 protocol and now want to activate ipv6, in order to have more complex IPs. The activation of ipv6 takes place in several stages.

First of all, you need to know your ipv6 address. To do this, type the following command line in the SSH interface of your server:

/etc/network/interfaces

Then restart your network:

sudo ip addr add youripv6address dev eth0

You then get something like XXXX: XXX: XXX: XXXX :: X / XX. Your ipv6 address is XXXX: XXX: XXX: XXXX :: X.

Add the IPV6 address to your domain:

yourdomainname.com zonefile

Modify the configuration of your Apache2 server:

/etc/apache2/ports.conf

NameVirtualHost xx.xx.xx.xx:80
Listen xx.xx.xx.xx:80

Add the ipv6 address in your virtual hosting:

/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/yourdomainname.com

 ServerName yourdomainname.com
…

Finally test your ipv6 address:
