The measures proposed by the mayor of Grenoble, Eric Piolle on the themes of education, religion and transport for the debates of the primary of environmentalists in view of the French presidential election of 2022.
Town planning:
We must continue the pedestrianization of town centers.
Transportation:
We must set up free public transport on weekends, going towards a halving of the price of the ticket. We must go towards free. For Grenoble it's 90 million euros per year, it's worth it, you have to go up by notch. It is the national who will decide how far we can go.
The highways must be nationalized. The privatization of the highways was a fiasco. Network infrastructures must remain public. Privatizing the common goods harms the general interest and the collective. We must get out of this desire to sell off the public service, because we believe that the private sector will be more efficient. 15 to 20% of the profits on motorway tariffs are cashed in as profits by the motorway companies.
100 euros per tonne of carbon in 2030, France's commitment was voted on. This must be offset with a revaluation of the activity premium of at least 5%, up to 1,800 euros. A negotiation to increase low wages by 10%. Raising the minimum old age to 1063 euros which is the poverty line, with all a series of social measures because it is 10% of the most fortunate who emit 4 times more greenhouse gases than 50% of the less fortunate in the country , according to the Oxfam report of autumn 2020. There is therefore money to be taken to finance this transition and that in the end it is social.
Rail freight is a third of greenhouse emissions from transport. 90% of this rail freight goes through trucks. It has to come down to 70%. It is therefore necessary to set up freight trains, to connect the ports to the rivers, to electrify the ports. We need an adaptation in public transport, tax the heaviest vehicles (one ton and 400 kilos).
We must facilitate the change of mode of travel with discounts on public transport.
Education:
You need two vegetarian meals per week in the canteens. This creates a territorial dynamic. It connects the agricultural world, the peri-urban world, and the rural world. We must impose this in collective catering, whether public or private.
Religion:
We must continue to ban the veil at school, which must remain a space of neutrality. The law of 1905 punishes those who want to force others to practice worship, it is an offense. We simply have to enforce the law. We must provide training for teachers and civil servants, it is essential for secularism.
We must be angry with those who use secularism today as a vector of discrimination. Universalism must not crush discrimination.
We must preserve the right to blasphemy, it is the law in France, it is legal. What is a violation of the law is attacks, discrimination against people in the name of their religion. Blasphemy against a religion is allowed, discriminating against people on the basis of their religion is prohibited.
