It is therefore found in the catalytic converters of cars to break down the hydrocarbon molecules which have survived combustion in the engine. It is also used in jewelry, watches, dentistry, surgical instruments, and aircraft spark plugs. Just like gold and platinum, it is an excellent so-called reserve value metal for investors. Its abilities to absorb hydrogen were highly appreciated by researchers for the controversial cold fusion experiment in the 1980s.
