Reddit is an Internet discussion platform. This site functions as a forum. It is possible to create posts in subcategories, also called Subreddit. You can comment under other users' posts. You can create your own subcategories if you want to discuss subjects that you cannot find elsewhere.
It is the perfect platform for:
- talk about current affairs topics,
- see the latest memes that are buzzing,
- talk about personal, intimate subjects,
- get specific advice from people who have had similar experience.
The positive points of Reddit:
The possibility of voting positively or negatively for posts (therefore topics), comments. The possibility of giving one's point of view on the respective subject. Thus to actively participate in the community. The ease of coming across comments from people with real experience in this or that subject.
The negative points of Reddit:
You can quickly quarrel with people who have a completely opposite point of view. This is true with any Internet forum though.
The display is more suited to smartphones or tablets with infinite scrolling, rather than with a pagination system (page number and number of posts limited).
There is both great freedom of speech on Reddit, with topics with extreme themes (for adults, such as pornography or violent images and videos). You may unwittingly come across trashy content that may shock you if you are sensitive or not expecting it.
But there is also a lot of censorship when topics violate the rules set by moderators in a Subreddit, or the rules submitted by Reddit. Which is normal, but when moderators know that a topic is going to create a lot of negative comments then they will tend to censor that topic.
There are a lot of disguised advertisements. There are a lot of traps, for example people who pretend to be artists and in reality refer Internet users to tendentious sites (to encourage them to pay in order to have access to images involving nudity or sex). .
The point system can push the user to collect them, which can be pernicious. This is true with most social networks though.
