Towards a resurrection?
In 2008, the series that had been stopped in 2003 was resurrected by Comedy Central. Producers subsequently tried to find a new channel to host the cartoon, but without success. The problem was the cost of production too high and a tone judged too free.
Several times it had been announced that Futurama would return the following year, but it was not.
Matt Groening doesn’t plan to develop a continuation to Futurama, he is currently working on a new series called Disenchantment. The co-creator David X Cohen confirmed in July 2017 that no new episode or movie is expected.
Recently, the totality of Futurama was removed from Netflix, which had created discontent among the fans.
