The Paraceratherium is one of the largest terrestrial mammals, perhaps even the largest to have existed on the planet. While the African elephant is currently the largest living mammal on Earth. We notice that the elephant has an honorable size and does not have to pale in front of the paraceratherium.

It is assumed that the arrival of the Proboscidea, and more particularly of the Gomphotheriidae (genus of elephants), ended the existence of the paraceratherium by transforming the forests of North Asia into grassland, thus reducing the available food. Eventually they were more vulnerable to new local predators (bear dogs and giant hyenas).
