WordPress Installation failed: Could not create directory

When you install the famous CMS Wordpress you can encounter this issue. It is a very common issue that can be resolved easily if you have a SSH access with your server. Wordpress is not able to create a directory to copy past its files.

You have to set the web server ownership :

# chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/example.com

And the directory permissions :

# sudo find /var/www/example.com/ -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;

# sudo find /var/www/example.com/ -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
